"I can hear the echo in a maze of words--
A lonely voice behind a door
Can you hear me calling from a world away?
A lonely voice behind a door" - October Project, "A Lonely Voice"
To everyone who is so far away: I miss you.
This deviation is inspired by several different things. It's meant to illustrate the feeling of missing people, of trying to contact and always coming up slightly short because of distance. I wanted to use a seashell because of a sculpture I saw with a young girl pressing a shell to her ear, and I remembered ~Ghost-addicted's stock and was thrilled. I liked the imagery so much (before I even started on the manip) that I began work on a sort of corresponding song, which still needs a great deal of work. It took me close to forever to find an appropriate shore, though, and when I finally got down to it, it took me just as long to get the details right (and GIMP died on me at one point, too, and I lost a lot of brushwork which I had to redo). I'm really proud of it, though, except for the hair I painted on the left side; it doesn't look right to me.
I can see being crushed by losing the brushwork and having to start over again. The overall image is phenomenal. The hair on the right? I will assume you are speaking of the models right and not mine and say that while it is far superior to my last attempt at hair (you haven't seen this as it was rather embarrassing and therefore deleted), it does seem to have a "lump" in it about midway down...possibly even that out, straight line down or at least a smoother line out from the rest. Favorite no matter what though, it is beautiful and makes me thinkof far away things.

IT's really weird how you said that this was meant to be basically about missing friends, for, that even before I went to the artist's comments, it reminded me of a strange sense of loneliness. Like the girl had been isolated for so long, so when she was finally released, by some unknown means, nothing was like it had been and everything she knew was now gone. Sorry, that must sound really weird. Anyway, I got a few poetry submissions up, and you seem the type that would really enjoy them. Please read them and tell me what you think.

Only in death can you truly enjoy the gift of life
However, for those who say that life is too short for something, they are wrong. What can you do longer than live a life from birth to death?

Stunning. You definitely achieved the feel you were going for... being, at the moment, very far away from most of those whom I love, I absolutely resonate with it.
And your brushwork, I must say, amazes me. I'm so horrible at it; it's shameful.
